The best birthday cake? Chocolate Oreo Cake!!

Birthdays. The best and worst days of the year. Depends on which side you are on, of course. I usually love birthdays. I am one of those people who loves to buy presents for other people. If I’m out and about with a friend, and they say something like “look at that, I woul love it!” I write it down on my Iphone, so that when their birthday comes around I always know what to get. This method in general has always worked for me. Until I met my boyfriend. I never know what to get him. Maybe because I care so much that I never buy the first thing I see or I never settle with something I’m not 100 % sure he is going to love.

So this year I decided to steal his heart by making the best cake possible ( i did also buy him a present of course), something absolutely delicious and out of this world. I do like to think that I reached my goal, but you can definetly judge by yourself. Try this cake and let me know what you think. It is a chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting, oreos, whipped cream and a chocolate sauce on top. Can it get better than that? I think not. This is the kind of cake that you can’t have everyday for breakfast. It’s just soo reach that after a slice you won’t be able to eat anymore chocolate ever (in a good way of course). The recipe is pretty simple, I know, thank me later.

  • 75 gr butter
  • 315 gr granulated sugar
  • 180 gr all purpose flour
  • 60 gr cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 175 ml milk, at room temperature
  • 175 ml hot water


  • 400 gr cream cheese
  • 230 gr soften butter
  • 350 gr icing sugar
  • 80 ml heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract


  • 75 g dark chocolate (70%), coarsely chopped
  • 45 gr butter


Preheat oven to 175 C°. Butter and flour two 9-inch cake pans. Melt the butter and set aside. Put the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add melted butter, milk and eggs and beat until smooth. Add the hot water and stir until smooth (The batter will be very liquid. Don’t worry it’s supposed to be like that).
Divide the batter between the two cake pans. Bake for 45 minutes, checking doneness with a tootpick before removing from the oven.
Let cool in pans for 15 minutes, then invert onto a cooling rack to cool completely.


In a large bowl mix the butter and cream cheese for 5 to 7 minutes. Add the icing sugar and vanilla extract. Mix well. Add the heavy cream and mix untill well combined.


Place the chopped dark chocolate and butter in a saucepan and melt on low heat. Set aside until room temperature.

If cakes are rounded on top, even them out with a knife. Cut both cake layers in half using a sharp serrated knife (you’ll end up with four thinner layers). Put the first layer on a cake board or a cake stand.  Spread frosting, some crushed oreos on the first layer and repeat until you’ve used up all four layers.
Spread a thin layer of frosting all over the cake using a spatula. Put the cake in the fridge for about 10 minutes to set.
Spread the remaining buttercream all over the cake until the cake is smooth. Put the cake in the fridge while you make the chocolate glaze (this will make sure that the glaze will firm up quickly when you pour it over the cake, so don’t skip this step). Pour the glaze over the cake and quickly spread it over the edges of the cake to make it run down the sides. Add some whipped cream on top and a few oreos and voila!
